High-barrier packaging and lidding

Our high-barrier packaging is the perfect flexible packaging solution for demanding products. They provide strong moisture, oxygen and aroma barrier properties. We are widely known for our siox or alox high-barrier sealing film (also known as high-barrier lidding), but also work with many other high-barrier packaging concepts.

Meet our expert:

Cecilia Villanueva Necochea

High-barrier packaging and lidding

Our high-barrier packaging solutions are perfect for protecting your products in the healthcare, food & beverages, confectionery, industrial, or pet food industries.

LPF Flexible Packaging’s high-barrier lidding is a specialized sealing film. This sealing film has an extremely high barrier that enhances your product to prolong shelf life. Our other high-barrier packaging concepts are laminated films or high-barrier preshaped packaging. And aside from protection our high-barrier packaging can be matt, printed or transparant to add a look-through ability.

Add our first-rate global technical support, unparalleled flexibility and high-barrier expertise to the mix and you can see what made us one of the market leaders in several high-barrier markets.

High-barrier packaging portfolio

LPF SiOx-HBL

Our SiOx is a specialized high-barrier sealing film. At LPF we call this High-barrier lidding: the perfect high-barrier packaging for companies that only accept the very best. Our LPF SiOx-HBL is comprised of microscopic units of glass that are placed on top of each other in a snowflake-like structure. This layer blocks almost all oxygen and vapor transmission. And because it’s made up out of glass, our unprinted SiOx-HBL is completely transparent. Just like us.

  • Microwaveable,
  • Great runability,
  • Completely transparent when unprinted,
  • Proprietary Clondalkin CPP-film adds ‘easy-peel’,
  • Can be customized with high puncture-resistance,
  • Retortable (pasteurizable or sterilizable).

LPF SiOx-HBL is unmatched when it comes to the total combination of benefits. Unmatched OTR, MVTR and bond strength, while having a low haze and yield/per kg makes LPF SiOX-HBL the king of high-barrier packaging solutions, able to take on even the most demanding product.

Some of our standard lidding concepts:

  • PET – SiOX/ BOPA/ CPP
  • OPP – SiOX/ CPP (recycle-ready!)
  • Flexoprint full HD:
    • Up to 10 colours, or 9 colours with a lacquer/finish,
    • Max printing width of 1450 mm,
    • Possible up to 95 degrees.
  • Rotogravure:
    • Up to 9 colour external print, or 7 colours external +2 color internal,
    • Max printing width of 1220 mm.

LPF AlOx-HBL

Our AlOx is a different yet similar sealing film. And just like SiOx it’s a strong high-barrier lidding packaging solution for demanding products. Unlike SiOX, our AlOx-HBL is made of microscopic units of aluminum, that are stacked on top of each other in a crystal-like structure. Because of the material and structure, our AlOx-HBL is not completely transparent but adds a slight ‘matt’ look. The barrier performance is however almost identical to our SiOx-HBL product.

  • Microwaveable,
  • Great runability,
  • Matt look when unprinted,
  • Proprietary Clondalkin CPP-film adds ‘easy-peel’,
  • Can be customized with high puncture-resistance,
  • Retortable (pasteurizable or sterilizable).

LPF AlOx-HBL is the king of efficiency. A very strong contender for total benefits yet also relatively affordable. And compared to aluminum or EVOH it still has impressive OTR, MVTR and bond strength specifications, with the same low haze and yield/per kg as SiOx. Want to learn more? High-barrier packaging/ other laminates

If you’re not in the market for a high-barrier lidding sealing film, perhaps our retortable laminates could be your weapon of choice. Aside from SiOX and AlOx we also have plenty of other high-barrier materials to choose from, and our retortable laminates can be printed and shaped to a SUP if required. See our technical specifications for more information on the available high-barrier materials!

  • Microwaveable,
  • Great runability,
  • Deliverable as film on reel or preshaped (Stand-up Pouch),
  • Can be customized with high puncture-resistance,
  • Retortable (pasteurizable or sterilizable).

Within our high-barrier concepts the possibilities are endless, as we routinely work with many different kinds of concepts. Some examples of the high-barrier materials we work with are:

  • SiOx
  • AlOx
  • EVOH
  • Aluminum
  • Metallized versions of PET/PP/etc.
  • Flexoprint full HD:
